Zayzel's one and only album, titled "Taste The Flesh Of This World" was recorded over 20 years ago, when Cody Drasser first began experimenting with with ambient/noise/industrial music. This would have roughly been between the years 2000-2002, in various locations in Queens and Brooklyn. With no clear intent or musical road map, Cody just started making sounds with whatever equipment was available to him at the time. Guitar, guitar synthesizer, microphone/voice, field recordings, refurbished home electronics equipment (he distinctly remembers a pair of television bunny ears being turned into an alien sound receiver) etc., all were utilized in the making of the basis of these tracks you now hear.

After he had amassed a selection of recordings he was happy with, he'd run it through various, primitive DAWs that his roommate happened to have on his ancient computer. Manipulating and mangling to his heart's content, until something emerged on the other side that he was happy with. Usually these sounds were frightening mutants of what had originally been captured, but these mutant variations were welcomed with open arms.

For whatever reason at the time, the name "Zayzel" appealed to him as a possible moniker for this unknown ambient-industrial-noise beast that he had on his hands. Though time has erased many memories since then, he still vaguely recalls trying to promote the music in some ways and having a strong desire to put the album out one way or another. But, being the turn of the century and the internet not quite being what it is today (no streaming sites, no Bandcamp, iTunes, snail mail and carefully concealed cash was still very much in fashion, you know what I'm saying?), he was never able to get it off the ground or find any interested parties.

And so, the music and these ideas languished for a long time. And they continued to languish even as Cody attempted to rework these ideas into other projects many years later. Of note, some parts of these tracks were utilized in the collaborative project consisting of Cody and Zachary Corsa (previously of Lost Trail, now of Nonconnah notoriety) on the "Empty Forever Empty" album released in early 2015. But still, these tracks were never really showcased in the way Cody had intended, so once again, they languished in their original forms, apparently doomed to never see the light of day or an interested ear.

Eventually, it was decided that the songs would be released no matter what and so Cody approached friend and label-owner Jim Haras of Fusty Cunt. Savvy listeners and followers will recognize the Fusty Cunt label for not only their long-running and fine selection of ambient/noise/industrial/cut-up albums, but also for having released previous albums "Occultation" and "Drugs In Heaven" by Cody's Caulbearer project. Jim thought it an appropriate set of tunes to put out and so it was decided that the tracks would find a wider audience with a cassette release by Fusty/Jim.

The album shifted through various phases and concepts, some extremely personal (perhaps too personal) and some not so meaningful. Eventually, Cody stumbled upon and became smitten by a poem/story by author Peter Watts titled "The Things", which was an alternative take on one of his favorite movies, John Carpenter's "The Thing". Peter Watts' story centered on the events from the perspective of the alien intelligence that was seemingly hell bent on eradicating humanity at all costs, but, as is the case with these things, there was a twist. Though The Thing was seemingly outwardly malevolent and evil, all it really wanted was to communicate and to elevate all that it came into contact with. For millenia, this was it's modus operandi. For time out-of-mind, all it sought was communion and mutual evolution brought about by physical contact. Now, as a by-product of this "communion" the life forms it came into contact with were forever changed, but since it was all in the greater interest of expanding and elevating consciousness throughout the universe, both parties often obliged and consented to go along with the transformation. Not so with man as we know all too well. With a label secured and a concept to anchor it, Zayzel's one and only album "Taste The Flesh Of This World" was born. Just as the God-like, alien intelligence languished in a forgotten state of suspended animation for centuries untold, the sounds you now hear had a similar gestation period.

The sounds you hear were created by a young man who had the highest of hopes for them, creating them solely in the thralls of fervent creativity, anxiously awaiting the day that they would be unleashed upon the world. Though naive and inexperienced with life, Cody believed that these sounds were destined to be bigger than he was and an influential game-changer in the scenes with which the sounds operate within. Of course we all know that life can beat the shit out of you, and change your way of looking at things in an instant, and this was no different for him. Life got in the way, experiences changed him, he realized that he was not the only one doing this (and some were doing it much better than he was). But, his tenacity for his creation always burned deep within, even when the darkness of life threatened to extinguish that passion. While the resultant album might not have the impact today that it could have had in the days of yesteryear, he hopes that some will still find enjoyment and excitement in it. That spark of intense and youthful creativity still resides in the core of this music, wanting to seep out into the minds of the listener. Much like the desire The Thing had to spread itself throughout the universe with its message of evolutionary communion. Or maybe it's just a nifty little cassette of noise music and nothing else. Either way, please enjoy.
